VPM 2026 Mural Project · Official Submission · 15 E. Broad Street, Richmond, VA
A two-mural proposal for VPM's new home in the heart of Richmond's Monroe Ward Arts District — inviting every visitor to discover transformation hidden in plain sight.

Inside the word evolve, the letters L · O · V · E already live. This simple, profound discovery is the founding insight of LovEvolve® — and the conceptual engine of both murals. This proposal invites every visitor who walks through VPM's Broad Street entrance to slow down, look closely, and find something unexpected: the change they're looking for was already there.
VPM asks for murals that reward close viewing, reflect Virginia's diversity, and make all visitors feel they belong. Hidden language — readable across age, background, and culture — does exactly that. A child discovers a puzzle. A scholar discovers poetry. A first-generation Virginian discovers their language in a universal truth. The wall speaks to everyone differently, and honestly.

The letters L · O · V · E are hidden inside the word E · V · O · L · V · E. Evolution does not leave love behind — it carries love forward and expands it. This is the founding truth of LovEvolve®, painted against the layered ridgelines of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
The same four letters · expanded · transformed · never lost
Colors drawn from the misty ridges, dawn skies, and native wildflowers of the Appalachian highlands — connecting VPM's downtown Richmond location to the full breadth of Virginia.
Native Virginia wildflowers — trillium, wild azalea, Virginia bluebells — thread through the letterforms at close range. The VPM logo is woven into the upper composition, meeting the mountain ridgeline. The portrait format (9'×14') draws the eye upward from earth to sky, mirroring the arc of growth the word transformation describes.
Artist's note on the VPM logo placement: The VPM wordmark will be positioned at the upper third of the mural, emerging from the dawn sky above the mountain ridgeline — naturally commanding yet harmonious with the landscape composition. Brand guidelines will be honored in full.

Language is alive. Rearrange the letters — and new meaning blooms. This wide-format mural (20'×10') celebrates eight word transformations that speak to every community, every culture, every generation of Virginian. The landscape format fills the sightline of visitors gathered at the stadium seating — a living conversation piece that changes with every new discovery.
Why this works for a diverse VPM audience: These are not abstract concepts. They are everyday words every visitor already knows. The discovery — that the letters of LISTEN are hiding inside SILENT, that EARTH and HEART are made of identical letters — creates a shared moment of wonder that crosses every line of age, background, and language fluency.
Find your direction through what sets your heart on fire. The map and the fire share the same letters.
Words can wound or heal. The same five letters decide everything.
To be truly silent is to truly listen. The same letters, rearranged — a different kind of presence.
The earth and the heart are made of the same letters. Care for one and you care for the other.
United or untied — the same people, the same letters, two choices. Community is always a decision.
When you share, someone hears. Every act of sharing is an act of being witnessed.
Every trail is a trial. Virginia's paths teach us: the journey and the challenge are one.
Four letters. Three words. Equal weight. What we tend is what we grow.
A jubilant, welcoming spectrum where no single color dominates each culture, each word pair finds its own home. The palette bridges visually with Mural I, so the two walls speak to each other across the reception space.
